Welcome to the world Koa Mitchell Seymour

We were released from the hospital yesterday afternoon, everyone is healthy and happy so I thought I'd pass along a few pics

Well, it's finally over. This morning at 6:14am Ang gave birth to a very healthy baby boy. He weighed in at 8.26 pounds, and was 23 1/4 inches in length. It came as a kind of a shock to us because we both have brown hair, and Malaia has blond hair. But our little fella is red as can be. Almost an orangy red. His name is Koa (Ko-ahh) Mitchell Seymour. Yeah we know it's an unusual name, but we both really liked it when we came across it. It's not in any baby name books that we read rather it's Hawaiian and it means brave, fierce, warrior.

The whole experience lasted approximately 5 hours start to finish. From Ang waking me up at 1:30 am, with contractions coming every 2 mins. And when we got to the hospital she was 4-5 cm dilated. Then at about 5:45 they decided to break her water and they did so at 5:51 and the little guy was out at 6:14. Both of our mothers and our sisters were able to be in the room to watch the delivery and there wasn't a dry eye in the place.

This is the first boy on my side of the family. My sister has two girls and we have Malaia so everyone was hoping it was a boy. Although Ang I would have been super happy either way. But regardless of that, both mom and baby are doing VERY well and there's talk that they may be discharged in the morning.

I'm running on fumes right now, because I've only had about 2 1/2 hours sleep in the last 24 hours and so I forgot the camera at the hospital with Ang, but I promise to post pics as soon as I get them home. In the mean time Malaia is at her grandparents for the night so I have the house to myself and so I'm off to bed.

What an incredible journey!

yada yada yada!

2 full days over due now. Not at all what we were expecting. And to top it off I'm going back to work today which is just over an 1 hour away from home. I've had the last week and a bit off, but no it couldn't happen then.

So if it doesn't happen today or tonight. Ang has an appointment with the OB tommorrow. They will do a stress test on the baby and then set an induction date. We're hoping that it will happen on it's own, but at least we know it's drawing nearer to the end of the pregnancy.

Here's hoping today is the day!

Please,, Please come on out

1 day left.. and still nothing.. The OB appointment on thursday morning was pretty much the same again as well. Ang is 2 cm dilated and the OB said the cervix was definitely softening.

I guess this baby wants to actually be born on the due date(hopefully). Which means we should have registered for baby stuff again. Because I think it's Sears where you get all your stuff for free if your baby is born on the due date.

Never thought it would go on this long. But here we wait.

Time's almost up. We're really not bad people, come on out and say hi.

3 days to go now. Still nothing doing. Braxton Hicks is the only thing that's been happening. Ang has an OB appointment this morning, and hopefully the doc can tell us that something has changed. I mean the baby has to come at some point. Doesn't it?

We've tried everything possible to get labour started too. Ang has decided that the best way to have the baby come out now is to eat as much ice cream as possible in hopes of making the baby cold and uncomfortable. I'm not sure if that's as excuse to enjoy mass quantities of Moose Tracks ice cream or not(LOL).

Once again I leave this post with nothing new to share and a promise to update as something new happens.

Update #4792

6 days to go now. Ang has thrown in the towel. Said she's officially done being pregnant. She thought she lost her mucous plug yesterday morning. And then a couple of hours later she was having contractions every 2 minutes for about 20 minutes. So of course we get all worked up. Then they stopped. It appears this baby wants to be able to walk, write, and speak once it is born. Anytime - pause - anytime.

To make matters worse, Malaia has come down with a nasty cold/flu again. We've have to wash her bedding at least once a day right because of all of the projectile vomiting going on. It took a bit, to figure out but appears she simply can't have dairy right now. Which is hard because her bottles still consist of milk.

Anyway, maybe today is the day!

Nothing, and stop right there!

9 days to go and still nothing.. This baby has got to be completely content dwelling within the confines of mommy's tummy. Ang has pretty much had it. She wants the baby out yesterday. Anyway the wait continues.....

Malaia on the other hand has been learning a few new things over the past week. She can now put her shirt on by her self. And is oh so close to being able to get her second leg into her pants. She's also really trying to say more new words, and appears to be really working on her pronunciation.

Ang took Malaia to a Osh Kosh store yesterday and for the first time in her life, she wasn't in a stroller in a store. I guess as soon as they walked in Malaia's eyes widened to 3 times there normal size, and she immediately ran from rack to rack to rack to shelf, and amazingly didn't start pulling things off the shelves or hangers, but instead sifted and sorted as if she was a seasoned shopper searching for the perfect outfit. Then she found a pair of shoes she liked and decided she wanted them and that the shopping trip was over. So she threw them over shoulder and proceeded to the front of the store and tried to open the front door. All while Ang stood and watched as our little kleptomaniac tried to shoplift for the very first time in her life. Thank god she couldn't get the door open. I'm not sure bail money is in the budget right now.

Hopefully today is the day and my next post will include a time, weight, name and sex of our new baby.

Anytime now!

4 days since the last OB appointment. Nothing has changed. This baby appears to be in it for the long haul. Although Ang decided tonight would be a good idea to have a glass of wine, supposedly to bring on labour. Absurd as that sounds, I then become the recipient of a glass of wine. Otherwise no bottle would be opened as that would be a waste. I have to say, a friend of mine has opened my eyes to a whole new wine drinking experience. Usually, I prefer a nice Shiraz, not too dry and with a little bit of spice. But tonight we cracked a Gamay Noir. And I'm talking full bodied, good tanins, spicy delicousness.. I highly recommend you try one if you are not a fan of a boring ol' dry merlot. Which I am not...

We'll see if this "glass of wine" turns into a baby by morning. If it does, you'll be the first to know.

And the wait continues

I'm drawing blanks when thinking of a new blog to write. I don't want to keep repeating myself. There is still nothing new to report. Ang had another OB appointment yestderday and nothing has changed. So the anticipation of an early arrival is absolutely draining us. When indeed it looks like this may go for the long haul. Monday will be 38 weeks. And in the meantime I keep getting houses to drywall that are farther and farther away from Ang. So that if she does go into labour it's going to take me at least an 1 1/2 hours to get to her.

Anyhoo, Malaia is saying at least 3 new words a day now, and really pushing her limits. I think we may be getting an early taste of the terrible two's. We are still working on "timeouts" with her. It actually works too. We simply warn her not to do what she's doing. Then we say do you want a timeout? Then when she continues to misbehave, we simply put her on the 3rd stair of our staircase and walk away, and she actually stays there. She cries a bit. But she never tries to come off of the stairs. Of course, we only leave her there for a minute or two. We're just glad we're gaining a little bit of the power struggle back from her. We now have our first parenting weapon that works.

But I digress, when I know something it will be said.. Have a great weekend!

Not yet!

I thought for sure I was getting asked for a chauffeured ride to the hospital last night. Ang said she had some weird things going on with her hips and lower back yesterday, and that she could feel the baby position itself head down in her pelvis.
But alas, still nothing. I think the fact that we went so early last time, is making it hard to wait till full term this time. Today is 37 weeks, so we actually have 3 full weeks until the due date. I still say we're going early, and that it will be soon.
In the mean time we're really stepping up "your gonna be a big sister" routine with Malaia. I think it's starting to sink in, but that until we have physical evidence, she won't fully get it. But on a side note. Every time Ang goes to the washroom now. Malaia wants to pull down her pants, take off her diaper and sit on the toilet. And she mimics the toilet paper wipe routine. So we may start toilet training a little earlier than expected.

Nice Guy

I get to see a lot of nice homes in my line of work(drywall). Homes that I would otherwise never, ever get to see unless I would be so fortunate as to win the lottery. Right now, I'm in the middle of doing a house that is probably around 2 1/2million dollars. It's slightly nicer than the average home(snicker). Yesterday the home owner came in and was so genuinely impressed with what we were doing he stayed and chatted with us for about a half hour. Now we've met a lot of home owners that are "too-good" for you type people. But this guy, who's about 40ish, was so nice, you could just tell that he didn't start out wealthy but had earned his money the hard way. So we asked him what he does for a living and he told he owned the bakery/factory that makes english muffins/bagels and muffins for all Tim Hortons, and Loblaws(presidents choice) stores. He just sold the business, and at the time of sale he 550 employees. So he said all he does is drive around all day. Although I'm sure he still in the business in some compacity. Anyway back to the reason I'm writing this. When he was about to leave, he turned and asked us if we shop at Loblaws. We've learned over the years to say yes no matter what, whether we shop there or not. He went out to his car, and came back in with a $100 gift certificate for each of us to the Loblaws food chains. None of us could believe it, usually a nice home owner will buy us a coffee, or a case of beer, or lunch. Not buy us groceries for the week. Needless, to say we we're all pretty excited and it made for a good day yesterday.

On the baby watch, there is still nothing doing. However, Ang did have an OB appointment 2 days ago, and I guess she's 1 1/2cm dilated. Which is supposedly normal. Although made me think about packing a bag. The OB also said she doesn't expect Ang to go into labor for at least another week, unless her water spontaneously breaks. I will keep updating as the time draws nearer.
